Praise for the author of Ir Tehila, reported by Y”S Tel-Melakh
By permission of the Historical Jewish Press
Background: The desecration of the Jewish cemetery of Brisk was reported on January 2nd, 1878 by the same reporter, Y”S Tel-Melakh. From that report we learned that the cemetery was not fenced. In that article, the reporter criticizes the gabbais for neglecting the cemetery.
In this article, the reporter apologizes for previous criticism, and praises the gabais for building a brick wall around the cemetery that will cost about 10,000 rubles. Since the people contribute with all their heart there is hope to finish this construction work in a few months. He writes that the gevir Regilman from Warsaw donated an amount that equals 400 rubles towards the building of the fence around the cemetery
The reporter names R' Arye Leib Feinstein and praises him for doing tzedaka in general and for this project in particular. He took upon himself leadership in this town and carries on his work without pay in faith and honesty and watches over the expenses and income of the town. Whatever he does, he does it in an orderly way. The money contributed, he used cleverly and honestly.
