My great-aunt: owned a olejarnie, an “oil distillery” in Wysokie Litewskie with her husband; when he died, she took over. The olejarnie was equipped with machinery including millstones, turned by horses. Tragically, their son was caught in the machinery and killed.
Four of her five brothers --Alex, Eibi, Velvel (“William”), and Chaim-- emigrated to the U.S. around 1913. Menucha and her brother Rachmil stayed behind and perished. She stayed in Wysokie and probably was taken to Treblinka.

Editor's Notes: Menucha's married name is unknown, as is the given name of her son. The 1928 Polish Business Survey does not confirm Stavsky ownership of an olejarnie in Wysokie. Two such businesses are listed but the owners' names are completely different.. |
