Deportation or Death
Timofievitch says:
Deportieren [deportation] of people to Germany by Germans who arrived from arbeits (bureau of work) of Brest, was in the hands of a commissar of the economy matters named Pavle. They caught people, assembled them inside a structure where a doctor named Menker examined them and sent them to the camps. There was an order to kill the people who did not report. Menker participated personally in setting on fire of houses of citizens who did not report in accordance with the dictate. Close to 700 men from my area were sent to slavery in Germany. Prisoners of war who withdrew eastward were caught. I know that in [original illegible] a German officer ordered to hang two prisoners of war. To this end he ordered the local farmers to prepare the gallows.
Dov Bar: The deportation mentioned above was apparently not of Jews. In my inquiries I did not encounter a similar event. I also did not encounter an event where farmers were ordered to prepare the gallows to hang two prisoners of war.
