A call for charity and kindness:

The author quotes Vayikra (Leviticus), Chapter 25, Verse 35:
If your brother becomes destitute and his hand falters beside you, you shall support him [whether] a convert or a resident, so that he can live with you.
Another quote, from Hoshea (Hosea), Chapter 6, Verse 6:
For I desire loving-kindness, and not sacrifices, and knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
The author, in his own words, exhorts the members:
We want to support our poor and weak brothers before they fall. We call upon all generous people to join in this good-doing.
Wake up to the love of khessed [charity and kindness] for the benefit of our nation and its existence. Wake up to the call of your brother who is weak and who needs some small support which will revive his soul. Your loan may help your brother establish some source of steady income.
The author compares contributions to Gmilut Khassadim to Leket and Pe’a: Part of the household expenses are likened to the part left for the poor in the field.
