In the center of the village lived Jews and there was the synagogue that exists until this very day.

memory and was polished by me. It aroused your astonishment as
to the “swollen belly” of the main street: I recall now that Shmuel told me when I asked him about "swollen belly" shape of the main street of Volchin: that this is how the main street of Volchin looked until the end of the Nazi period.

Editor's Notes: Shmuel's world was clearly the central area of Volchin, almost exclusively inhabited by Jews, and this is reflected in the exaggerated width of the main street and, perhaps, the size of the Market area. |
