Baruch Meir describes pogroms in his home towns, the region, and throughout Eastern Europe. The earliest, referenced (to avoid censorship) as Sufot BaNegev (Storms in the Desert), occurred in 1881 and 1882. More occurred in the period following the opening of the new century, 1900 and in the years following. Finally, he describes the pogroms of the World War I period.
When Baruch Meir writes of pogroms, his handwriting seems agitated and shaky.
Baruch Meir often describes serious fires occuring in these towns adjacent to entries about pogroms, but he does not specifically link the fires to pogroms. He does note that the pogroms drove Jews to make Aliya to Eretz Israel.
Baruch Meir was aware of events affecting Jews, world-wide, and often commented about these events in the diary.
He was very sensitive to mistreatment of Jews.
