Baruch Meir was clearly affected by attaining the age of 50 years:
Today after the end of 5667 and beginning of 5668 [1907] – I have lived 50 years. The details of what occurred during these years are written in this book but now I want to review 25 years from 5642 [1881] to the end or 5667 [1907], at which date
I was stirred by the ideas of Khibat Zion and the national spirit.
In 1889 – and 1890, he writes, he studied at fixed times with friends. It was good for him. He also learned the skills of a mohel [circumciser] with the help of the Rabbi and the shamash Moshe HaCohen.
He considers both as ta'aniot:
I considered it a ta’anit and Tikun and Teshuva that I have written.
I hope that not one day will pass without any one of the three types of good-doing, and merciful God will save me from evil inclination.
Baruch Meir is definitely looking forward:
This is the account after the 50th year of my life and may God grant me life of Torah and teshuva and help me live to write an account of my life in 10 years from now in Jerusalem, our holy city.
